                written.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT:

                       Programs:
Before/After School Programs
We currently have 219 children enrolled in the Before/After School Programs being held in the three elementary schools:
Davis Hill – 50 in the morning and 40 in the afternoon
Mayo -  20 in the morning and 37 in the afternoon
Dawson – 39 in the morning and 33 in the afternoon
We are down 11 children from last month. It seems to be a sign of the times. People are losing their jobs or finding alternate care. Denise commented that she feels we have strong numbers and a strong staff.
Adult Programs
Another session of adult classes has begun. KOGA has 10 enrolled; 3CPYo (2 classes) has 24 attending; Yoga for Every Body has 17 enrolled; Zumba (2 classes) has 37.  Hatha Yoga (our morning yoga class) begins its next session at the end of the month.  We are also offering a “De-Stress for the Holidays” 3 hour workshop on Friday, December 10. It will be presented by our morning Yoga instructor. It will be a meditation/relaxation workshop with herbal tea being served. Erin asked how much it will cost and Denise said $40.00. Denise commented that she is quite pleased that several gentlemen are participating in the classes.
New York City Bus Trip
Trip is scheduled for Saturday, December 4, 2010. The bus company gave us a 35 seat limit and it is presently sold out.
Ski/Snowboarding Lessons
Lessons are being offered at Ward Hill beginning in January. Presently we only have 1 child signed up. There is no transportation provided.

Miscellaneous:
        Santa’s Arrival
Santa’s arrival is scheduled for Saturday, December 4th at 5:00 p.m. at the Town
Hall.  The police and fire chief, Ron’s Sound, Light Department and “Santa” have been notified. The Church has been reserved, and the goodie bag items have been purchased. The Girl Scouts will be packing the goodie bags later this month.  Please arrive at 3:30 to help with popcorn and hot chocolate.

        Skateboard Park
Phone interviews were held with 3 design firms, and the Committee chose Hardcore as their preferred design company.
         Dog Park Facility
Denise commented that she had met with a woman who expressed interest in helping establish a dog park facility. Sue commented that the woman had also been at the Open Space Committee meeting. Lisa asked why we are still involved in the dog park if the Committee had made a motion to oppose it. Denise said the Town Manager has requested that we still pursue it. Denise said she is only proposing Recreation funds for the fence; after that the dog park would be a town responsibility. The Committee still has concerns about it being too small, keeping it cleaned up, and the liability issues.  Lisa asked Denise what the purpose of the Recreation Committee is. Denise said it is an advisory committee and not a decision making body.
        On-Line Registration
Comments were made regarding on-line registration. Denise included a cost analysis and fee structure breakdown for the on-line registration for MyRec.com. The Committee asked what other towns use this software and Denise responded quite a few including Northborough and Braintree. Denise is recommending a $3.00 fee increase for all programs to cover the cost of the on-line registration fees. Denise is not sure how the whole process will work at this point; she is anticipating reserving a number of slots for both on-line registration and for walk-in registration. We have the Senior Center reserved for summer registration the second Saturday in May.
Denise handed out a report showing the final figures for pool revenue and expenses for 2010.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.

The next Recreation Committee meeting will be held on February 8, 2011 @ 7:00 p.m.
        at the Starbard Building.
